I recently stayed in three European cities/hotels, and none of them had irons or ironing boards in the rooms. When I called down to the front desk to request it, they promptly delivered it to my room, but it had me wondering if ironing is the latest dinosaur.
When I am home, I don't really iron or steam my clothes much, but most of my clothes were wrinkled from being stuffed into the suitcase, so I was taken aback not to see them in the room as a staple, like a blow dryer. I can't recall the last US hotel I stayed in, so I'm unsure if this is a European trend or occurring in most hotels. Do you still own/use an iron? |
Yes

I own an iron and it gets used maybe once a month. DH is more likely to use it, for work clothes, most of mine either don't need ironing at all or I dry clean them.
What I use a lot is a hand steamer. Even on stuff that I previously might have ironed, like a linen shirt. I prefer the result with the steamer more -- it doesn't touch the fabric so it doesn't get that flattened, stiffened look that ironed clothes sometimes get, it just relaxes any wrinkles or creases out. I bought it for my DD's dance costumes but now I mostly use it for myself. Also love that it travels easily. |
I try to hang up my clothes immediately after they come out of the dryer, and I have a lot of no-iron shirts. So I seldom iron. DH is old-school and meticulously irons a week’s worth of work shirts every Sunday. At least he doesn’t expect me to do it like my MIL did for her husband.
Absolutely yes, especially summer- I wear a lot of linen, cotton, breathable fabrics
I haven't ironed in 10 years. Shirts go to cleaners.
I have an iron and ironing board but it might be used once a year. Everything gets hung promptly out of the dryer or air-dried then steamed with a hand-steamer if necessary.
I have an iron here somewhere, but I have no idea where. I use a steamer instead.
I have a few dresses and shirts that I iron - and for holidays, I iron napkins. That’s it. Most fabrics don’t need it these days.
😂🤣
Only for special occasions.
I don’t iron. I could use a hand steamer though. Any good recommendations?
I'm in my 50s and use a hand-steamer most days. My kids are in their 20s/30s and don't own an iron or a steamer.

I have gotten lazy with ironing and hardly ever do it although I own one and have lots of clothes.
I rely mostly on Downy linen spray and then steaming if needed. |
I still iron occasionally and find it soothing, but I also use my dryer steamer feature a lot.
