Responsible 16-year-old boy who has had permit for a year. Has a job and involved in extracurricular and I am over drop offs/pick ups.
We were thinking about giving him my Subaru Forester (2020) and getting something new for myself. It had all the bells & whistles (back up camera, blind spot detection, emergency stop etc). His driving instructor said to get them “an old school car” at first so they learn how to drive without all the handicaps. I actually like knowing he’d have these safety features. They can also be turned off. What did you do? |

Girl, I do not have that kind of money. |
| We did not purchase any vehicles. Two daughters (18 and 16). |
| My 16 year old is stuck sharing my car and only gets to use it when I don't need it. |
| I gave my son my 22 Subaru Forester. It is a very safe car and will last him through grad school and beyond. |
| I think OP's plan sounds fine. Make him drive with all the safety features enabled. Accidents can happen but using those safety features improve odds of safety. |
| We thankfully were able to hold on to a very good car with no bells and whistles. Its older than my kid and still in great shape. |
| My DD16 drives a 2015 Subaru Outback. I'm glad she has the safety feature. Honestly any car that doesn't have them is going to be really old and less unreliable at this point. |
| I y give him that cat. |
Oops autocorrect. I would give him that car. |
it was a funny auto correct. |

I don’t think driving with a cat in the car is very safe for a new driver. |
For a car?! |
