Dog peeing in house

Anonymous
Our dog is about 8-10 and for the past year has been peeing on our rugs despite having no issues before. She gets walks and we let her out to pee, but it seems like particularly between 5-8pm, she just pees. Is this just part of aging? She is on a hydrolyzed protein diet and has some arthritis. I’m buying pee pads and taking her to the vet but wondering what is going and if there is hope for the rugs.

Take her out more often.

+1 as they age you have to take them out more

Possible diabetes, possible thyroid disorder, possible bladder stones, possible kidney disease, possible bunch of other stuff. It is unlikely to be purely behavioral as the dog was formerly house-trained. 8-10 isn't that old unless it is a giant breed, so I doubt it is as simple as age related incontinence. You probably should have addressed this sooner as a year is an awful long time and habits develop that may persist after physical issues are resolved.

Is it happening right after she goes out? Take her out every 30 min during that period and see if it solves it.

When our dog did this all of a sudden it turned out to be a UTI

We made a vet appointment. I definitely don't think it's behavioral. And her annual exam was in May and we had a follow up in the fall related to arthritis, but she wasn't peeing in the house frequently at that point. But seems like it's getting worse.
