Times Not In SWIMS Database

Anonymous
My child swam in a PVS meet. The meet results are posted to the PVS website. The times from that meet are on myswimio. The meet is not on swimcloud (don’t care).

My concern is that no times from that meet appear in the USA swimming data hub. Why could that be? Is that not connected to SWIMS? Is that not where meet directors would check to ensure cut times have been achieved?

Thanks for the insight of anyone that knows these ins and outs.

The Marlins one? My kid's times from that meet are in SWIMS.

Marlins meet, yes. And that’s delightful that your kid’s times are in SWIMS.

I checked my child and two friends (to make sure it wasn’t a one-off). None of the three have times in the USA swimming data hub from that meet.

There could be an issue with how your club entered swimmers. Start with your team's data person. They will talk with the Marlins data person if something needs to be corrected. I see kids from multiple teams in USA swimming data for that meet, so if something is missing, there was something with with the data.

PP, is your swimmer with York? Mine is and I can’t see our times in SWIMS either.

Yes. York’s back office people are amazing, so I wonder what the issue is, but I’ll reach out.

They should be. There is a new platform coming that’s in test.

Still no Potomac Marlins qualifier times for York swimmers. Not sure what the deal is.

This sounds like a PVS problem or a problem with the meet file that PVS kicked back to the club(s).

The general process of how it works is that the host club sends the final meet file to PVS. The PVS National Times Coordinator verifies the file, looks for any timing anomalies, checks for any issues with swimmer names/USASID/etc, uploads the data into SWIMS, "certifies" the meet file, works with the meet director/meet referee for any issues found, and then hands it to the PVS webmaster. The PVS Webmaster then posts the official meet file on the website. Myswimio, swimcloud, etc all import the officially posted meet file from pvswim.org (and other LSC websites). A few third party sites screen scrape data from SWIMS as there is no API for SWIMS because USA swimming wants to own all the data. Sometimes the host club sends the unofficial meet file before PVS has verified it to third party sites but this can cause issues if the National Times Coordinator has to correct any times (ie going to secondary timing system), fixes any names or swimming IDs, etc.

The real answer to why would be to ask your coach to email times@pvswim.org and ask.
