| Deciding whether to send our child for a pre-K and would love to hear some personal experiences (good bad or otherwise). Thank you in advance |

I’m not a River parent but I have multiple friends with kids at River and it’s a place that everyone seems to truly love. All of them rave about it.
It does start to phase out around 4th grade but the early education years seems really great. |
| I am a current River parent. The school is a real gem and I can’t recommend it enough. Yes, the facilities are not amazing, especially for the high tuition, but the care and education my child is receiving is amazing. The unique teaching model is what you’re paying for. Each class of 10-14 kids has a full time masters level educator and a full time speech language pathologist. This means the educators have the capacity and energy to give each student the attention they need. And I love that the school is deliberately low tech and placed an emphasis on comprehension and communication. It’s incredible. |
| A few days late but chiming in to say we love the teachers there. It is such a warm community for our child. Agree with everything the poster above stated. |
| The staff is very white though. Like, white, white. |
+1 to all of this. Have had two DC at River; the youngest is still there. At least once a week, my spouse and I remark to each other about how special it is. |
Why is this a problem? They are great teachers, why discriminate against them because they are white? |
Heaven forbid! |
It's good for kids to be in a diverse environment and to see people of color in positions of authority. |
+1 |
So you're making the case for hiring by race. That's affirmative action. Either you hire the best teachers or you don't. Dressing it up as being 'good for kids' doesn't change what's actually being proposed. |
They can hire whomever they want but if you have a kid of color, it's much preferable to be in a place where there are at least some staff and faculty who look like your kids. |
| Minority parent here. Our children have been deeply understood, supported and loved at River. |
Apply that logic consistently. A white parent saying they prefer their kid around mostly white staff would end the conversation instantly. Same logic, different reaction. |
| We loved River! Very special place. |
