Ones we’ve heard of and read? Ones that are more than 10-20 years old?
I don’t think my all-honors senior has read more than a couple books I’ve heard of, and even those were ones she chose from a school list, not books assigned to the whole class. |
| Yeah, they barely read books at all anymore unless they do it out of personal interest. |
| Sophomore has so far read only one complete work, Macbeth. They're working on Frankenstein now, and that will be the second complete work. However, they have read a Meditation from John Donne, a tale from Canterbury Tales, excerpts from the Rubaiyat, and some of the books from Paradise Lost, so there has been a lot of reading. |
| My junior is reading Hamlet and is bored out of her mind. I really wish the curriculum was better/more interesting. |
What are the names of the books? It’s a mixture of old and new at our schools. |
Because she already read Hamlet? Or are you criticizing WS? |
| Yes, and I love it. Lord of the Flies and Gatsby coming soon. |
| Mine is reading Beloved right now. Hamlet previously. |
| I have a sophomore in honors and a senior in AP. Both have read about 5 classics and one newer book. In a public school in the south this year. We moved here from the east coast where they were in a private school and the readings were similar. |
and this is HS? We read that in MS. |
Love Hamlet, as well as the related Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Read both in AP English years ago. I know my DD’s school teaches both, and I’m glad she’ll get the chance to read them. |

What sort of school, OP?
|
| Yes, my kids both did. One graduated and one is in HS. I also wish they would update the curriculum or make these a choice. They seem to dislike them as much as I did in HS. |
| 6:14 and this was a combo of local private schools and FCPS. |
| My freshman has read animal farm, romeo and juliet and now jurassic park. Hates them all. |
