I know there have been petitions before, but there is a new one with specific action items. Please consider signing.

How can they make a petition like this and not even talk about the transportation concerns?

It was written before the transportation issue came up.

Are the regional programs for each school also being finalized on March 26th?

Not really. CO staff can always make changes to programs.

Was sent to me by someone else so I don't know exactly, but it was written by current MCPS parents who are active in PTA and have been meeting with MCPS staff about concerns with the current plans for the regional model.

I think the concerns raised are valid, but there's no stopping this train and the BOE will rubberstamp the program model no matter how many emails, petitions or statements it receives.

Transportation has been an outstanding question since the beginning of this process. They may have only just confirmed that their plan is to offer extremely limited transportation, but anyone paying attention knew that there was no commitment to adequate and equitable transportation.

And it's not like they can't edit it, either. If you're going to have a laundry-list petition like this and then leave off one of the most important issues, it's just irresponsible.

The transportation issues became crystal clear (i.e., pickups for regional programs only at high schools) after this petition went out.

Rubber-stamp your vote on the board come election. And Taylor will have 4 new BOE members who didn't hire him on the next convened board.

Why can nobody write a decent petition around this regional program thing? Despite deep opposition, there is no way they are going to get a large number of signatures on a petition like this.

(The timing on this is terrible, too. Why couldn't it have gone out a month or two ago? Asking for this many changes that are this extensive over a 3 week period makes them sound unreasonable and disingenuous... at this point you've got to ask for things that are realistic in the timeframe available, like asking them to commit to some simple but important changes to transportation or local setasides or whatever. Plus just practically speaking, it's too late in the process for a petition like this to make any difference.)

Who wrote this? Why no transparency?

That'll be true regardless as only Grace is running for reelection.

The petition shows the BoE what's missing from the proposal. Now they won't be able to dodge the point and say they didn't know what they were voting for when families come to them with problems in the new model.
