HOPE rating

What is a good HOPE rating? Older kid was admitted to full time when the GBRS was used. Older kid had the highest GBRS score for every category. My 2nd grader’s HOPE scores seem mediocre. Mostly often. Kid is quieter and the class size is unusually large. Otherwise, 2nd grader has high test scores and all 4’s on report card except for 3’s on a couple specials. I don’t know what to make of the school work samples. They demonstrate kid’s creativity and ability to problem solve and think critically. But it seems like they could have picked more academic examples. HOPE score seems low compared to rest of packet.

Same. I looked at my 2nd graders HOPE sheet and it’s very average. Also, I don’t feel like the teacher did this… looks like principal and AART who don’t know her well. They are listed as the school committee. And my older child has gotten in with high GBRS but this is different… and the samples they submitted do not represent well.

when my current 4th grader applied the AART said you can’t put always unless they 100% of the time do it. my all 4s, 99% kid had a mediocre HOPE too but thankfully made it in

DC just have 1 Always, 5 Almost Always and 5 Often. She has very competitive NGAT and MAP scores and was in-pool. We'll see if she gets in.

Sorry for my stupid question, but where did you see your kids’ HOPE rating? Do you have to request it? I don’t see it.

You can request the submission packet including HOPE score from your AART.

Kid got 4 always, 4 almost always, and 3 often. On the hope file on the bottom option comment was indicated that he improved his MAP score by 18 points for the winter test, moving from 95% to 99%. 160 NNAT and 152 NGAT, in pool. The school provided works are a bit hard to read, math ones seems ok, but there are some drawing ones, kid is not very good at drawing… I provided home samples, hope that helps. Not sure if this is good enough, cross my fingers. His brother is in AAP when GBRS were in use.

I think the HOPE matters a great deal.

That’s what I’m afraid of. DC’s teacher is known for low HOPE scores as compared to the other 2nd grade teachers and apparently less kids get accepted from that teacher’s class. Teacher did not write comments on the HOPE. DC helps other students with their work and goes above and beyond in school. So I’m not sure what the teacher expects. DC is in pool NNAT 142. NGAT 150. Report card all 4’s in the main subject areas. Level 2 in multiple subjects.

Those are great scores! I would think your DC is a shoe-in.

This is an excellent hope score and the test scores are great too.
