DS took SAT August 2024 and got 1480. Then Sept. 2025 and got a 1540. He wanted to score little higher. Should he take the free SAT offered by the school in March? He is planning to take ACT instead in April.
Any thoughts on this? How has the March SAT been last year? I suppose no seniors will take it so will it be easier? |
It’s free and his highest score is already great. If he can pick up a few points, then super. If not, no one has to see the results. Plus if he gets more points he can skip the ACT.
Thanks so much for this advice.
Yes, why not?
Take the free March one. No harm in that, but 1540 is already enough.
Wow, good for your kid! 1540 is high enough for any college. Unless your kid wants to take it again (or take the ACT), I wouldn't push it.
As long as DC doesn’t spend time on it, there is no downside. I don’t think it’s worth it to prep for it.
No downside to taking it, but don’t expect it to be easy because no seniors are taking it. It doesn’t work that way.
No need to retake the SAT and no need to take ACT. SAT scores can only get you so far, and your DC is already there. Time to focus on other parts of the application.
I'd have him take it, then skip the ACT.

As long as the prep doesn’t take away from strengthening weaker parts of his application, why not?
Nobody knows if a 1540 is enough, there are no goalposts. Good luck to him! |
