| I’m the OP of a recent thread about IBS-D. I’ve been taking this med as a bile acid binder and it’s done wonders. But my throat is so irritated and I’m worried the acid will harm my already weak enamel. My doc can’t get the med in capsule/tablet form. Anyone on Cholestryamine who’s working around this side effect? |

I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in college and have been taking Cholestryamine daily since 1982. It’s a yellow powder that I mix with water every morning and drink.
I have never experienced any side effects at all during that time. I have had any kind of irritation and haven’t had any enamel issues. I just know that if I don’t take it, my stomach will be upset and I’ll have diarrhea all day. The only side effect for me is that it also keeps my cholesterol levels low which has been nice as a 67 year old male. Good luck to you! |

Correction:
I should have said “I have NOT had any irritation at all and haven’t had any enamel issues.” |

Why can’t your prescriber get the pill?
Colestipol. I have never had a patient that couldn’t get it. |
| NP here. I took it for Microscopic Colitis. I thought it was a miracle drug. I also had throat issues. I had to stop after 30 days. My throat was contracting and I thought I would not be able to breathe. |
| OP here. I’ve read throat clenching is an allergy symptom. Mine isn’t clenching just irritated. I tried taking it with more water and drinking more throughout the day and that has helped a bit. |
Hmm, I asked my NP and was told it’s not available. I’ll ask the GI specialist when I see her. |
| I would ask my pharmacist if they have it. |
Did you have other symptoms? I’m very congested and think I have a head cold, but maybe it’s an allergic reaction. |
