Does anyone get these who aren’t FGLI or URM? It’s unclear to me if that’s who the program is aimed at, or if it really is broader than that.
How valuable is it, beyond the financial, compared to Monroe or 1693. |
| I have 2 kids there and never heard of this. |
Here's a reddit thread that may help: https://www.reddit.com/r/williamandmary/comments/1jv7731/shocked_incoming_william_mary_scholar_recipient/ |
https://www.wm.edu/admission/financialaid/types/scholarships/merit/ Did you try the school's website? |
| It's a FGLI only scholarship I believe. Only certain high schools are eligible to nominate students for it. I think it's pretty brand new - funded by a donation from an alum a few years ago. Covers in state tuition and fees + research stipend. From what I can tell it selects smart students who come from lesser resourced schools who might not have the financial means or support to go to a school at their level otherwise |
| On the W&M page for this scholarship it clearly says must be FG LI and the photo of recipients show them to all be persons of color. |
I did, and it leans towards FGLI and URM as one of the three but not the only considerations. The description also says it considers students who have faced adversity and challenges overcome. https://www.wm.edu/as/wmsure/wm-scholars/ So far, sounds like no one has firsthand experience with my questions, although I appreciate the responses. |
My guess is you're probably not going to find anyone with a child who received that scholarship here |
| M DC was nominated by their school. We are not disadvantaged in any way and when we looked at the website realized it was clearly not aimed at our child. Looks like an awesome program for FG and minority students. |
| My DC was also nominated by their school, and the only criteria that they fall under is being a minority. |
Might want to check with the nominating teacher. It’s clearly FG/LI and all the recipients on the school’s page are persons of color |
