| Our child was accepted to NCRC and we are deciding whether to send him. From our interactions so far, the school seems to be incredibily liberal (DEI director for pre-school, Pride celebration, etc.) and somewhat disorganized. We are also surprised by the number of male teachers at the school, which seems very strange to me for pre-school. All of that, along with the history of the prior head of school, is making me question sending him. Does anybody have thoughts on this? Would love to hear personal experiences. |
| Loved NCRC! Great teachers. A happy place. |
| You sound like you didn’t do your research before applying. The school is excellent, and the teachers (regardless of gender) are top-notch. |

The best decision i ever made in my life to send my first kid to ncrc. It opened me up to how there really are differences in preschools and it all can matter (kid had already been in two other “ good” preschools)
Going to NCRC ( i eventually sent three kids for a total of three years) helped me learn to do alot of study about all kinds of schools. Of course you have to be interested in putting in this kind of research. My kids eduations turned out very well. Oldest is about to get his masters, next one graduating college this year and the third will graduate next year. Best of luck with your decision |
| Would suggest you post in preschool forum. |
| Top notch school, with great and dedicated faculty and administration. Also outstanding and welcoming family community. We have graduated and still keep in touch with ncrc families. Outplacement resources are also pretty good if that ends up being needed |
| I would look into another school. With its history, it’s just not worth taking the chance. |
| +1 |
OK, so this POV is about 25 years old. You have no idea what NCRC is like today. And yes, OP, it's extremely liberal, if that is the right word. Too much so for a pre-school, IMO. |
| If you’re worried about a preschool being ‘too liberal,’ then the problem is you, not the school. |
| We sent two kids to NCRC and had nothing but excellent teachers. The school incorporates diversity in an age-appropriate way. The lessons my kids had included: sloths, Picasso, and ants - all very in depth and keyed toward their interest. The community at NCRC is second-to-none and we made some of our best friends there. |
Disagree. You must not have kids this age. |
Agreed, but yes if you’re worried about a preschool being “too liberal”, go find another school. NCRC isn’t going to change its science backed practices to suit your beliefs |
| It's been great for us and we are probably a little more to the right than some. Yes, there is Pride programming, but also programming for AAPI and Black cultures. All occur over the weekend (they are parent-organized) so you don't have to attend. I've not seen any in the classroom--no holiday is formally recognized. Our first year was the year James was arrested. We're glad we didn't leave. He had no impact on our experience so it's still been just as great as before. We've had experience with almost all the male teachers, they're all great and you can tell they take immense pride in being of great value to the classes. When you meet them and have the opportunity to chat, you will see why they are so well-loved by many. The same way we wanted to see diverse races in the faculty, we also wanted to see diversity in gender. It is definitely a happy place. We don't have any friends there, but families are friendly. The only way it could be even better is if lunch was provided. |
I agree with everything! Such an amazing school. I also only wished lunch was provided. It was a pan to make lunch every day. |
