We are having our annual off-site meeting at a fancy conference center four miles from the office. We are hybird two days in office.
One guy is sitting in office by himself after driving 40 minutes to work on Teams. The Teams invite clearly stated to attend in person unless it is your remote day and can make it or other family commitments. We started meeting 15 minutes early to do test and he was sitting there by himself in an empty building. Twice he was told hang up on Teams meeting come over. We are serving breakfast and the Teams is only for people at home who cant make it to office today. He looked like a deer in headlights when he stammered it is my inperson day so unsure if I went to meeting off-site it would count as my in person day. Then he said he is headed over. Guy was sitting in an empty building as he got there at 8am for 45 minutes and in that time it never dawned on him that is weird. |
| This seems to be a theme. How are these stupid people being hired? Does the state of their intelligence change, or maybe nepotism, or based on being tattoo-free? I would be curious to know. |
| They are ignorant of office life. They assume the fire you fairy will get them if they deviate from their desk on an in office day even when office site moves. |
| Hi J1 guy. |
| Different take: organizations are so hot on “in the office” that he doesn’t want to take any risks. |
So you ask |
| Sounds like a messaging issue combined with rule-following personality. Lesson isn't the employee is dumb. |
This. Repetitive threads. |
| Most of working in the office is to sit there and work on Teams anyway so I can see why he was confused. |
|
Ugh. I'm afraid this might be something my high IQ but autistic adult son might do at the office. He's not stupid... but he comes off as stupid sometimes, due to not entirely understanding social norms.
|
Me again. And please understand that this was probably quite stressful for your coworker, OP. My son would be stressed out, because he knows he can't catch social subtleties easily, and he's always worried he's going to be blamed. |
| Why do you care so much that you make a post on an anon board? Weird. |
|
Op, did you mention to him that the meeting was in the conference center not in the office? Maybe it was miss communicated?
Gosh, poor guy 😔 |
| I had to repeatedly reread your sentences to try and understand what you were trying to say. So, it looks like there are two non-geniuses at your work. |
| Did you write the calendar invite? that will explain why he was confused. |
