Blair SMCS 10th grade courses

What are the Blair SMCS 10th grade magnet courses?

How does the double-period science class structure work?

There is no double period. It’s just a one credit class taken in a semester with a single period.

In 10th they take advanced bio (one semester but full credit), advanced chem (same), pre calculus (final semester out of 3) and analysis (first semester out of 2) or two semesters of analysis if they are in the functions track, analysis of algorithms (and another comp sci class of they are on advanced track, don’t recall the name right now). There’s also an engineering class (FOT, i think is the name)

My DC is a sophomore now. The above is not correct. Freshman year they take one semester of physics and one semester of chem. Sophomore year they take an entire year of bio. They also take earth science in the fall and then engineering in the spring. So the “double block” of science is only in the fall.

You are correct. I was confusing freshman year with sophomore when OP asked about double periods. My point was there are no actual double periods though i confused it by offering the wrong details on specific classes.

How does your sophomore like it? We have accepted so curious to hear as many experiences as we can!

We have been very happy with the program so far. It is of course a lot of work, but for a motivated student with good time management skills it is an awesome opportunity to be with a like-minded cohort, receive some truly excellent instruction (not universal, there are definitely a few not great teachers), and be able to explore in depth science, math, and compsci. I do worry about how the program will change with the new regional model, but I am hopeful that the teachers there and now Mr Ostrander in central office will try to preserve as much as possible.

Thank you!

The courses have funny credit amounts (like 1.0 for a one semester science class, and 0.25 for a semester of research/experimentation/engineering)

But I don't think that matters for anything practically.
