Beauvoir - how hard is it to get in for K?

Anonymous
I have seen varying commentary about Beauvoir on these boards but it still seems to be very much an in demand school. How hard realistically is it to get in if we are not legacy/alum but have a bright DS. He’d be applying for K if that matters next year.

It’s not that competitive any more. It’s a big school and fewer parents these days want NCS/STA for their older kids, so it’s easier to get into all the Cathedral schools than it used to be. Ask anyone who works in admissions/outplacement.

+1 the coed K-12s are more popular now. and no outplacement drama later

They add about 20 kids in K (10 girls and 10 boys). A few are siblings (though most enter in PK). I think it’s still quite competitive.

Definitely still competitive. Regardless of the NCS/STA connection, it’s a desirable school. For many, the focus on early childhood education is a bonus. Some of the K-12s view their LS as an afterthought with all funding going to the US. Having a school that ends after 3rd gives the opportunity to assess how your child is as a learner at that age and Beauvoir puts you in a strong position for outplacement.

Kids are still baking in 3rd grade. There’s still more room for growth and development.

Check out the Regrets about School Choice thread if you’re considering applying to Beauvoir.

BVR is excellent. I think the recent threads bashing the school is the result of BVR kids NOT getting into STA and NCS and poorly behaved children being exited out.

Beauvoir parent here- the threads are a result of some of us honestly sharing our experience and trying to help others avoid the same mistake we made. We didn’t even apply to NCS and STA and behavior isn’t an issue. Honesty is a life rule.

It’s competitive. Our kid did not get in for K despite NCS and STA alum connections. Only 20 spots, which includes siblings.

Thank you. What does that practically mean in terms of how many non-legacy, faculty kids and non-sibling spots there are each year for the kindergarten class?

It is nearly impossible. Aim lower.

Not true. If interested, go for it. We did not put in any extra effort (admissions events, overly expressing interest, etc) and still got in for K. Declined for K-12

You should apply for PK when there are 60 kids entering. Yes, some are siblings, but may aren’t. k is more competitive.
