Which MoCo private school?

Early elem school. Below grade level for both math (1 year behind) and reading (less than 1 year). Low processing speed. Reading comprehension and writing LDs. Low-average IQ. No behavioral concerns. ADHD (medicated). Best Montgomery County school option?

IEP in public school isn't working, despite school's best efforts.

McLean School?

OP here - currently considering McLean and Diener. Worried about the "SN-lite" description folks on the board give McLean...if that mean my kid will still need support/tutoring outside of school, if they won't be able to provide the scaffolding he needs in classroom, if the gap won't decrease and it isn't money well spent.

For Diener, worried that the classes are just so small, thar the social aspect of school will get lost, and also worried about the less rigorous education also described on these board.

Open to other schools I just don't know about.

Maybe Lab if you can get into DC? otherwise maybe just spend the money on tutoring?

Look at McLean, Lab, and Siena. One year or less behind isn't that much -- Diener would be overkill.

OP here - we have spent money on tutoring. It isn't helping enough. The gap is slowing getting bigger and I worry about later elem school when school really picks up. Plus tutoring after school is really fatiguing kid. Would love more support in school and less need for tutoring out of school.

My Child is at McLean and thriving. It’s not SN light, but it is full of highly creative neurodivergent kids and the support is built into the classroom. So what my kid used to get for support one hour a day at a different private is all day at McLean. It’s been a huge confidence boost for her.

Siena or Lab

Siena

Siena is solid for elementary. IMO that's the sweet spot of their program. I would reassess after 5th grade bc middle and high school are challenging there for many of the reasons shared on this board.

+1
One year behind isn’t much for that age. You said no behavior problems so McLean should work. Plus they are larger and have a wider range of extra curricular activities which is great for socialization. Lab or Siena should be good too but dont have first hand knowledge about them.

For Early Elementary School - Siena MD is not the right answer.
