| Hi! My family and I will be relocating to the Tenleytown area of Washington, DC this early summer. We have three children—our oldest will be in summer camp/school and we are looking for a nanny for our 2-year-old twins. Could anyone share what the typical nanny rates are in this area for two children? Thank you in advance. |

You're looking at $25-$35 an hour, with PTO - sick, holidays, vacations
Variations: Neighborhood, language (people will pay more for bilingual, less for a nanny who only speaks Spanish and doesn't communicate well in English), years of experience, on the books/off the books, education, benefits (you can probably pay a little less if you're offering a health insurance stipend), hours (weird hours, you'll pay a premium, guaranteed overtime at time and a half, you might be able to pay a little less). |
Oh, and think about what you're going to do when the older kid is sick or there's no school or camp. If your nanny is going to be expected to fill in, then you're getting a nanny for three, not two, even if the oldest is in school and/or camp most of the time. |
| The first commenter is very misleading you won’t get a nanny for under $35 in the dc area for 2 kids.. unless it’s a foreigner who just wants a job. |
There are a lot of reasons why someone might choose a “foreigner”. Our family was looking for a native Spanish speaker. And before you ask, yes she was here legally and she even had her masters! Don’t be such a hater. I think the rate comes down to years of experience - you’ll pay less for au pairs who are looking for their next gig, more for nannies with many years of experience / education in child development. |
| the post says NANNY not au pair… and stop with all this years of experience BS, how much work are you going to ask your nanny to do THATS what the rate is based on… plus knowledge and years of experience |
