Maryland’s Blueprint

Anonymous
Did anyone see the article on how schools are going broke trying to fund the Blueprint which is producing little to no success/growth? It was on Substack - written by Carol Hughes.

How much longer do we have to fund this and how can we get rid of it?

I located the article, in case anyone wants it:

I’m wondering how much longer we can afford the extra 10-17k for NBCT. Seems very expensive to me.

They need to scrap the blueprint and roll it back until the state’s economy starts generating enough money to pay for it.

With Wes Moore and Marc Elrich, Nah...

National Boards is a wonderfully reflective experience but earning it does not make you the greatest teacher in the school. I received my NBCT a couple of years ago and when I look at some of the characters in my building who also have their certification I'm not that impressed.

I feel the same. I paid $30k for my MAT (dumb, I know) back in 2006. Accumulated $16k in interest (loans were deferred for a long time). Paid on it for a long time and just recently got it forgiven. I’m now in the MA +60 lane which gets me a few extra k per year, but nothing like I could earn with NBCT.

I’ve decided I’ve done enough and I refuse to jump through more hoops even if it would get me an extra 10k a year.

Who is the company/organization making money from NBCT? Maybe they lobbied towards politicians to incentivize NBCT more so that they could make more money?

We will. My entire family is so done with MCPS and Moco. Too bad for MoCo. It won't get our $$ tax revenue to spend on the boondongle that is the MD Blueprint.

Thank you. I agree. But all the NBCT-certified teachers got a $10K boost to their salaries so there is that, for them.

I believe it just might be the same organization that operates the WIDA testing for English Learners. If it's not, it's the same type of highway-robbery parasite organization.

Don't blame them. Here is the culprit - Nancy King: https://msa.maryland.gov/msa/mdmanual/05sen/html/msa14005.html. For whatever this is worth it looks like she attended community college - don't see a degree included in her bio.
