40th High School Reunion

Anonymous
My 40th high school reunion is in June. A few of my high school friends had eating disorders, and they are extremely thin and completely obsessed with exercise. I am 5'5 and weigh 143 pounds. I used to be very thin, but I'm now in menopause and enjoying eating out. Should I try to lose weight before the reunion?

you thinking that trying on an eating disorder will help you fit in better with the crowd at your 40th?

sounds exhausting to me. if you want to take up something, i'd surest weightlifting because we all could stand to be stronger.

No. Just go. It's a few hours.

40th? Who even cares? Half the class is probably dead.

If there’s ever a time to work on emotional issues it’s now OP- you should not still be comparing yourself to friends, OP.

If you are not happy with how you look and feel, then yes try to reasonably and healthily lose weight. If you are otherwise happy, then of course no you shouldn’t.

How much do you care what they'll think about you? Everyone will be trying to use weight for that one occasion - it's so easy now.

You’re going to your 40th reunion and you still care about this bulls**t?

At your 40th, the men will be mostly bald and fat, and the women who are comfortble with themselves will look like you. And others will be on a GLP. And, by this point, no one cares/gives a f*ck about what your body looks like. They want to walk down memory lane and remember the stupid stuff you did over 4 decades ago, hear about your kids and when you are retiring and where

At that height and weight you're normal and healthy. Just get your hair done and a nice outfit and enjoy yourself.

It's human nature to care about the bulls-t. If you don't then you are probably messed up. It's a problem if someone obsesses about it but to think...Oh I wonder how, whoever looks. maybe I should lose a few pounds seems very normal to me. Just like people like to lose a few pounds before summer vacation. Just very normal stuff.

I’m 5’5 and wish I weighed your weight! I’m 20lbs heavier and I’m not crazy fat.

Just find a killer outfit and enjoy.

This.

I'm just a little bit younger than you. At this age, honestly, the very thin women are starting to look terrible. I hope they are over their eating disorders and I hope you can all enjoy reconnecting.

Your friends from 40 years ago still have eating disorders and are thin? If you know this, you see them and they’ve seen you. You are actually at a fine weight. Go and enjoy yourself and stop worrying about superficial stuff. It’s a waste of time and you are too old for this.

FWIW I was heavy in HS. I lost weight later. At reunions the mean girls were all much heavier than me. Obese.

At my 35th it was the walking wounded. People would talk to anyone who listened about their imperfect lives. Things were going well with me at the moment, I just kept my mouth shut and felt grateful.
