I have mixed feelings when the market is doing well while people are losing their jobs

I probably have shares of this company or ones like it that cut people to prop up their stock price.

On one hand we complain about companies laying off people, but we sure do like it when stock prices go up.

Nothing prevents anyone from owning stock and from participating in the fortunes of the companies whose shares they buy. No reason to sympathize with people who choose not to be investors. You can open a brokerage account at some firms with $0, and some require maintaining a balance of only $100 or more. Many brokers allow tradiing with very small amounts, regardless of the minimum opening balance.

I mean...Block was trading at $250/share in 2021. It's up big on this announcement...to $67.

The company has been challenged and has struggled. I am not sure how happy you have been as a shareholder unless you literally just bought it this morning (when it i

I feel the same way. While it feels great to log into my retirement accounts to see the gains, it doesn't overshadow concerns about the state of the world, concerns for our neighbors who were laid off, and the economy.

So start donating your money. You probably have more than you need.

I HATE people like you who are so quick to pile on people who are already struggling. Of course they should have saved. It's very easy to look at others who have not done as well as you and blame them. I'm sure it makes you feel good. I hope you live long enough to enjoy your millions.

I am assuming you are not American? Because if you were you wouldn't give a f***k. We are some of the most selfish creatures in the universe lol. We are taught to worry only about ourselves.

Last week my friend told me he can't wait until AI wipes out so many jobs because he can then buy a bunch real estate etc at a deep discount since so many will be jobless and assets can be bought at a discount.

So is avoiding responsibility for your outcomes.

Moaning about how badly you or others have it is merely useless, performative self-flagellation. If you don't like your circumstances, change them. If you don't like other peoples' circumstances, that's still a "you" problem.

This tells me you haven't been in the market long enough, OP. I have sectors of industry I will never invest in, for ethical reasons, such as alcohol, tobacco, oil. And I have specific individuals I don't want to share companies with, such as Musk. But otherwise, it's all fair game.

Yeah, I’m sorry sht is crazy and ai is about to revolutionize the world for better or worse and what not, but I need to feed my kids. I’m buying stocks. I am not burdened by guilt it’s useless. What are you even talking about op? You’re mad you’re sad that you’re making money on stocks of companies that are firing people? What are you going to do about it besides whine?

Jealous of attitudes and actual actions which lead to financial success instead of envy? We all have opportunities, large and small, but only some take advantage of them.
