PP Here. I think I also remembering someone saying the British School when I asked a few years ago. However, I checked their website and they give very specific year/month cutoffs for every single grade up thru HS. I am not sure but I think they are willing to use the Dec date for one of the preschool groups but at least on the website it is very clear that Sept is the date being used once your child is in K.
Also to the OP, I want to tell you that I have gotten burned with this. I went to a Montessori that had no problem putting my child in Jr. K when she was 3 turning 4 and I thought she was doing well. But when she was 4 turning 5 suddenly they didn't want to put her into K. They were strictly using the Montgomery County Oct 15th (early entrance K) cutoff. I could never get a straight answer if it was truly because my daughter wasn't ready for the work or if it was because they didn't want to deal with the county or a parent trying to get his/her child into 1st grade the next year. Regardless, they weren't committed to her learning K material. I ended up moving my daughter to a different Montessori and it was a blessing in disguise. Within a few months we could really see the difference in her focus and the leaps in her reading and math skills. I really think part of it was moving to a smaller school in general where the kids are able to get more attention and have more of the community feeling. Again, my recommendation is to look at a school that goes maybe to 1st, 2nd, or 3rd with Montessori so you have the option to stay longer and the school has more of an incentive to teach your child above his/her age level. Also, in hindsight, in my rush to find the perfect school that had a schedule that worked with two working parents, convenient to our home/job AND with a December cutoff, I feel the first time I didn't necessarily pick the best school, I picked the acceptable more convenient school. You almost need to ask yourself, if your child had an August birthday, would this still be your first choice of schools?
