| Cost going from $250 a session to $300 a session in dc. I need to switch therapists for my teen daughter. Is Virginia cheaper? Is this normal cost for a teen? |
|
Seems in the range of normal.
It’s expensive because that is what the market will bear. |
|
In person or online? That is on the high side, but we did online. If it's in person keep in mind the person pays rent. Also, there is a lot of paperwork and documenting. Liability insurance isn't that expensive, but it's an added expense along with continuing education seminars. Still, I think you could find a better rate.
We have had success with people in insurance as well, but longer waitlists and less convenient times. |
In person cost per 45 min session |
| It is within the range but seems on the higher end. Do they have a doctorate or a great deal of experience? My son sees a clinical psychologist who is highly experienced and charges $250. She is worth every penny. I was employed in an administrative role by a Bethesda/DC based practice that was all master’s level providers and I was surprised some with little experience were charging as much. |
| Because people are willing to pay it. |
|
say they see 7 patients a day
$250x 7 =$1,750.00 x 4 =$7,000.00 x 52 =$364,000.00 And pay office expenses. It's not that much. |
And business taxes, self pay benefits, professional memberships, liability and personal insurances, business and professional licensing, continuing education, any marketing, payment processing. That’s before paying themselves. |
Accounting, medical billing…prob missing a few more. |
This would be a very heavy load and not done 5 days a week. |
|
That is expensive. Maybe if you drive a little further out to the burbs, you'll find someone cheaper. But the real deal is finding a licensed therapist from a lower COL state and doing online sessions. No commute.
|
So they make less. That's why they charge $250/hour. It's a middle class living. It's a good living, but they aren't making a ton. |
Exactly. They’re charging enough to make a living. It’s a high price to the consumer, not necessarily unfair though when balanced out with expenses and education. |
That’s in no way middle class. |
| This is why I use my health insurance for therapy. I definitely can't afford $250 a week out of pocket for therapy. It took trying several different people, but I was able to find someone who was helpful on my plan. |
