How is the debate program at MBHS? Is it a serious program with good funding and performance at competitions. We are not zoned for BCC and I have heard that their program is amongst the best. Do both magnet and gen pop students participate at Blair? And what is the time commitment? Thanks!

Not super motivated to respond to someone using the phrase "gen pop" as though Blair is a prison, to be honest.

Blair is a terrible school. Stick to your w school and leave it for families who live in the area. It’s

You don’t get to say “gen pop” unless your child is not in one of the special programs at Blair. And I don’t think that’s you because you are zoned for BCC.
Stay at BCC, please. |

Generally people use the term 'neghhborhood' for the local kids

The debate program at Blair hosts competitions that are attended by other MCPS schools. I have heard mix things about it. A few people say it is really good and others say it is not a serious program, the kids attend just a few competitions here and there.
Most student do debate outside. Whitman and BCC are serious. The kids who do outside of school do it with Montgomery County Debate League.
DP but they said they are NOT zoned for BCC. |
No one, absolutely no one calls Blair “MBHS”!!
The final Montgomery County Debate League tournament was at Blair yesterday. Roughly 2/3 of the finalists were from RM or BCC. Those are the competitive teams currently. But that doesn’t mean you can have a great experience at another school. Some schools’ teams are student run and don’t really have coaches. RM has a very involved teacher coach. I wouldn’t surprised if BCC does, too, but I don’t know. I don’t have details on debate outside of this league. I think some schools have travel teams. Anyone know?
*can’t have a
Potomac school has a travel team, but that’s private and in VA.
