| Anyone else whose kids are playing rec basketball feel like this season is just dragging on? I don't remember feeling like this in previous years. I am so over it. We seem to have two extremes in one of my kids' grades -- people who care way too much and people who just want it to be all about fun and learning with zero competitive spirit. It's making for ugly games and ugly parent behavior. |
| No it feels the same as every year - not long enough! |
| Not long enough for us. |

There was a fight between 2 Dads yesterday at a game in Rockville. The refs son was being a jerk from the bleachers and another Dad said something to him. That set it off.
Ridiculous |
Don't think I've ever seen that - son was there to watch his dad referee? And he was chirping about teams from the stands? |

Some of these parents are terrible. I was at a 5th grade game and one team only had 4 kids and the rules state you can start with 4 and need 5 by the half to not forfeit.
The team with 5 was pressing and the parents of the team with 4 kids were a little mouthy about it. Then one kid from the 5 player team air balled and one dad starts yelling "air ball" Then the parents kept mouthing off about the pressing causing arguments between some parents. |
I mean... obviously mouthing off at players (air ball etc.) should cause re-evaluation of one's maturity. But doesn't sound completely one-side - pressing hard 5 vs. 4 in rec league? That coach ought to re-evaluate as well.... |
| Any rec coach with any class would be playing only 4 players to match the other team's 4. |
Exactly right - does every tenant of sportsmanship need to be defined explicitly? And even if wanted to play 5 but for pete's sake drop back and play regular (non-trapping) defense. |

I love watching basketball and will be sad when the season is over! Our league has a few really great coaches, a few who are a little too cutthroat/let their sons ball hog, but also some really bad coaches. Just know nothing about the game or how to motivate. I also mow the draft process for our league left a lot to be desired and the teams are pretty lopsided in talent. I know a few of my kid’s friends’ parents are so relieved the season is over.
Thankfully the parents this year have been pretty supportive and chill (not the case for other grade levels, as was evident from the multiple league emails about spectator behavior). All stars is a different beast. Last year the pool play ended with a coach being ejected/forced to forfeit. Lots of the boys were crying and that coach almost assaulted a ref. This was for THIRD GRADE. People are insane. |
| Basketball season never stops in this house. |
