Promotion ceremonies for ES and MS and new MCPS calendar?

Anonymous
Hi all, wondering what folks are hearing, if anything, regarding the timing of ES and MS promotion ceremonies given MCPS' apparent decision to extend the school year through the week of June 22. We have an 8th grader and currently the ceremony is scheduled on June 12. While I understand that kids are still supposed to attend school afterward (graduating HS seniors may have another rule!), the optics of having this occur two weeks before school ends is a bit strange! We haven't heard anything yet about the date changing, but I recognize everyone is still digesting the MCPS announcement. Anyway, I'd be curious if folks with 5th or 8th graders would post what their schools are doing. Thanks!

Last year they kept everything the same, so I would count on the date staying the same. Too hard to reschedule everything.

+1. Especially since there's still a chance the General Assembly acts to change the requirements, making the extra days unnecessary.

Last year we received guidance from the county that we could issue excused absences to all 8th graders who chose to stay home after the promotion ceremony

Our ES principal said earlier this year that in case of snow days, they would likely move it to the day before whatever the last day of school is.

Our 8th grade promotion is June 16 and not changing.
