VYS

What are the goods and bads at VYS? I have a lower level player. How is coaching, communication, and player development? How are kids socially and parents?

If your lower level player wants to be a top level player someday then dealing with any club influenced by MV is too big of a risk. If the end goal is to waste your kids golden years just kicking then let them go have fun.

Otherwise join a better club. Even on their second or third teams some development is happening.

New poster here. What is MV? and what team would you recommend as an alternative?

Large organization. Most attention goes to the top team, but there is plenty of action and activity at all levels. Socially it can be cliquey and there is some jockeying for spots. But they have tons of events and so many people. If youre not too worried about politics and its close to your home it's a good choice.

Why is MV a risk? A risk for what? (I'm new)
Is McLean or Arlington recommended over VYS?
Arlington looks huge. What is the chance of not making any of those three teams or do all kids get placed?

This is my first time on this site. I searched to try to find answers before posting. I couldn't find answers so I thought I would try posting. This isn't very friendly.

Sorry, now I feel bad. Look honestly, Vienna is a fine club with friendly kids and parents. It’s not very competitive but your kid will have fun and make friends. If you want something more competitive then go next door to McLean.

One last thing — don’t be so sensitive on DCUM. People are brutal.

Thank you for the reply and for warning me about this site.

Which club (McLean or VYS) has a better reputation for building a high school player? We are not looking to play in college but would like to play in middle school and high school on the school teams. Will both clubs prepare kids to make their middle school and high school teams? Coming into this a little late does one club over another build a lower level kid or if we aren't on the top team, is it too late?

I’ve been at several clubs, through several kids, including VYS.

Club is great if you are a lower level player.

Top team can be a little unfriendly until DC proves themselves to be a good player. Second team can have toxic parents obsessed with getting DC on the top team. These are prevalent at every club.

From talking with current families, there was some frustration that other clubs were holding zoom trainings during the recent snowstorms and VYS was just off - but that doesn’t sound like it would bug you based on the level of intensity you seek.

You should do a search about the FCPS tryouts in this forum to get an appreciation of how competitive it is to be a high school player. If you are at a smaller private, then maybe it doesn’t matter.

Fcps doesn't have middle school teams. Boys HS teams are rough to make even JV.
