Has anyone used generative AI to get advice about your child?

Anonymous
I just put in a prompt about how to deal with a situation at the school and it seemed incredibly helpful. We have worked with an advocate before who I thought was great. But the AI's answer is almost better because it is teaching me how to advocate. I am wondering if others are using this as a tool.

For sure. Talked me off a ledge recently and gave effective advice on how to handle a situation with DS.

Yes I actually have put in prompts to suggest IEP goals! I would never actually take it as professional advice but it was helpful just to have something else write it for me.

Oh yes. I’ve shared IEPs and ChatGPT has told me that the district was ripping me off.

I’ve also shared results from neuropsychs (without my kids name) and had them summarize it for me to understand my child’s strengths and weaknesses and recommend what to ask for on his IEP. The neuropsych did some of this but I found when looking back on the lengthy report months later it was helpful to have ChatGPT reorient me.

You might be interested in this woman/organization. She is running a workshop right now on using AI as a "thought partner."

This is a great way to ensure that an LLM is being trained on your kids' information.

The fact that people don't consider their children's privacy is even more appalling than special ed teachers using LLMs to write goals.

I view it as a way to be as informed as possible on my child’s needs and beneficial supports.

You're also informing Google or Microsoft or Claude of the same. If you're cool with that, great. But your child may have other thoughts.

are there any privacy controls that protect? using a vpn? providing information that is stripped of names, doesn't use "my child," etc.? using AI but not through an "account" and while having privacy controls turned on?

I don't want my data out there in the wild world, but it seems impossible to avoid. When I go to the doctor, they're asking me if they can use AI for the visit notes, and I don't get any information about what AI system, under what conditions my data is kept private, etc.

We're approaching the point at which it seems impossible to opt out of this stuff or if you do, you are missing out on significant assistance.
