Summer Swim Pool Recommendation Mt Vernon Area

Anonymous

Can you recommend pools? We are hearing some have drama and others are pretty strict about who can join. I wish NVSL had a sort by zip code function instead of scrolling through pages.

Any insight?

There are a lot in the area depending on your patience for a waitlist and how close you want to be to home. Consider Mount Vernon Park, Hollin Hills, Hollin Meadows, Stratford, Little Hunting Park, Highland Park, etc. Check out this list too:

Mount Vernon Park is great - low drama, two pools (50m and 25m), lots of space and a good community. Waitlist can be long, but worth getting on.

The website says membership is full and it takes 3-4 years to get off the waitlist. 😞 Does that seem about right?

Most pools in this area have a waitlist of at least a year.

We are at LHP. If you like reps that prioritize their swimmers over the others. We are your team.

Let me caveat this by saying I do not live in Alexandria and go not know the pools or swim drama/cultures. A few years ago our kids’ team was in same division as MVP. MVP hosted the dual meet (and Divisionals) that summer. I remember the MVP swimmers made posters that hung on the fence to welcome our team’s swimmers and just an overall positive spirit/sportsmanship vibe. Parent volunteers were welcoming too. A few years have passed but I hope that you can join a pool like that.

Which neighborhood do you live in? Are you in Mount Vernon (22309) or the greater Mount Vernon/Ft Hunt area?

Mansion House is the only pool east of Rt. 1 in Mount Vernon (22309) unless you are interested in the Mount Vernon Country Club or the Yacht Club. Pinewood Lake is the other NVSL pool in 22309 but that is on the west side of Rt. 1 in the Pinewood Lake community. I don't know if they have membership restrictions but everyone that I have known that belongs there lives in Pinewood Lake. Because we only have one pool, the majority of pool members in any given neighborhood in Mount Vernon will belong to Mansion House.

Riverside Gardens, Mount Vernon Park, LHP and Hollin Meadows all attract families who live in Mount Vernon. Riverside Gardens seems to be the "social" pool. LHP has a lot of members that live in the city of Alexandria. Hollin Meadows recently rebuilt their pool - they have a master plan to redo the bath house but are still saving money for the project. Once it is complete, it will be really nice.

How long are the waitlists for these pools?

yes- its been years since we swam MVP, but I have such fond memories. I didn't have this specific experience but they did something similar that was super welcoming.

Quoting myself. I see Waynewood has a 4-5 year wait and has boundary restrictions.
