Overnight care

Anonymous
Before I was married and had kids, I provided overnight care for a handful of families while I taught full time. Most of the time it was for teenagers where my presence was primarily to ensure they were safe and not throwing any wild parties.

Now that my kids are older and I have college bills to pay, I was thinking of stepping back into providing overnight care for school-aged children.

Do you think there would be interest in this service? Is the best place to advertise on a website such as care dot com? Any advice is appreciated!

Yeah, I did this for a family before. They had an older kid but she had some anxiety about being home alone at night. There's definitely interest in this. Word of mouth and facebook neighborhood groups are a good place to advertise.

If you’re comfortable with younger children and can commit to being available on call for like a 2 week period, you could make a lot of money as a sibling doula. I looked into hiring one when I was pregnant with my second child a couple years ago, but I think many would only provide 24 hours of coverage and I wanted my husband in the hospital with me for the entire 3 day C-section stay. We ended up paying our nanny some serious overtime to stay with our 2 year old. You might want to work through an agency so there’s a back up if you have an emergency yourself.

We have kids aged 9 to 16, and we've considered hiring someone for this. Would be great to find an experienced parent rather than a college student.
