Is this clickbait?

prompt engineering is going to be the high growth role - a broad-based SLAC education is the best preparation. Williams or bust - all the nerds from MIT Cornell and CMU will be working for the SLAC grads

Prompt engineering already dead brah! Did not even make it 2 years as "hot" job.

Some college now have AI as a major.

That list is a good start. Click on "AI" only and check if the college offers AI as a major.

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/01/22/colleges-that-offer-bachelors-degrees-in-ai.html

Other colleges have an AI/ML concentration like UMD (DC is in that program).

AI/ML is heavy on math.

Gate keepers. You don't need to worry about this. Your brain is too simple to understand math and modeling. Go embracing your prestige and hoping your dollars will not devalue

My junior CS major at UMD isn't particularly a fan of the undergraduate AI coursework. REAL learning occurs at masters and doctorate levels.

This. You need a CS PhD to really understand and work with AI

of course. The AI courses are just introductory and scratch the surface.

That's why some universities are now starting to offer degree programs in AI. They are still new, so not sure how good these programs are.

“Majoring in AI” is the equivalent of “majoring in working in the assembly line” or “majoring in typing on a typewriter” for our grandparents’ generation. You don’t want to major in AI, you want to major in what the bosses of industries that use AI will major in. That’s medicine, pharmaceutical research, quant trading, banking, Walmart/Costco/Home Dept…literally every F500 companies. A lot of them will be from liberal arts education that teaches critical thinking.

Only exception is if OP’s kid is already a comp sci genius and plans to invent the next gen of AI. People who do that are Comp Sci PhDs from about 5 colleges in the whole world. If you don’t already know who these PIs are and which colleges are funding the research, you’re not gong to get anywhere “majoring in AI”
