Lindamood Bell

Does anyone have feedback about this tutoring, positive or negative? My DS had ADHD/SPD, and I strongly suspect dyslexia.

It can help all children, some more than others. It worked spectacularly for our son. But I want to lay down some caveats. He had 3 people in a 3x/week 45 minutes session for Seeing Stars only for 7 months. It helped, but over the summer, he dropped back to his original reading levels: C/D.

His SLP integrated parts of it the next year in his weekly therapy sessions and from September to April he got to an H reading level.

He then had a 3 week intensive at the Lindamood Bell Center: 4 hours/day with all the components and jumped up 3 grade levels and has maintained it. He has an auditory processing disorder and dyslexia and verbal comprehension of a an adult - as tested.

LMB almost always says to give them six weks - annoying, but that seems to be standard. The folks at the New Mexico Ave center are top notch.

Thank you. That's very helpful. How old is your son? Also, how much is it for each 45 minute session and for the 6 week program? I could not find the price on the website. I know it's pricey, but if it works we're willing to give it a try.

can you share the cost associated with the program?

The 45 minute sessions were provided at school, so I don't know the cost. They do have an afterschool program at the center. He did the intensive during the summer between 3rd and 4th and is now in 5th. The cost for the intensive is about $2000/wk. I got the school system to pay for it as part of his IEP.

I met another parent there - her son did 8 weeks and was able to enter middle school reading at 7th grade level when he was reading at K level. I do think our children were atypical, but progress is possible. LMB will do testing for you, but I would also suggest a neuropsych to confirm dyslexia independently.

Besides the LMB center, there is also a place called Acelin Learning and sometimes their instructors also work at the LMB center over the summer. They might be cheaper: http://www.acelineducation.com/index.php?p=home

LMB can also arrange financing.

As I said, I did not pay for it, but that year I had already spent over $5000 in speech language therapy and he now needed a breakthrough in reading. We knew it would work for him. I would have paid for it myself, if I had to. The Lab School is $30,000+ and that kind of money I don't have.
