AAP packet

Second grade parent here. What is the timeline to request to see the AAP packet that AART submitted?

Just put in the request and they’ll get it to you when it’s available. We got it back around this time a couple yrs ago.

Our AART said the due date for the packets from the schools was pushed back slightly due to the days off due to snow. So it will be ready for release in a few weeks.

In this case, is the report card from quarter 2 included?

PP from above. I received my child's packet and there was no report card for 1st or 2nd. Only NGAT, MAP, and Nagleri from 1st in addition to info sheet, HOPE, and work samples.

Is it a good idea for an anxious person to look at the packet before the decision is known?

Yes. Look at at. You may feel better or can start getting your appeal ready.

It actually helped me. I feel like my kid is a long-shot due to low NGAT, but the work sample comments and strengths (math and LA) were encouraging.

My other kid would have been surprising if they weren't accepted (and they were) and the current 2nd grader is totally different.

Yes, I’d look at it. It showed me where I needed to fill in gaps on work samples, bc our local team phoned it in, and I booked a WISC for right after decisions came out, in case it was a no. Both things contributed to successful appeal.

What about first grade iReady? VALLSS?

No - there is a spade for iReady Reading, but they don't take that until 3rd. No iReady Math. Also no VALLSS.

iReady and VALLSS aren't really great for showing advanced abilities. VALLSS in particular is used for flagging students who are not demonstrating on-grade level skills.

MAP is much better at showing advanced abilities, and I care much more that it's included.
