I have Covid! Anyone else this winter?

I feel so miserable. I forgot how crappy this can make you feel. I haven't even had a cold this winter and now this has me totally leveled. My doc prescribed Paxlovid but with insurance it was $295! Forget it. I'll just clear the virus myself.

UGH.

You tested with what?

Same, I was out of work for a full week and I’m still coughing weeks later. I went in asking for a strep test bc the sore throat was so bad and they ran a COVID test too and that’s what it was. I sympathize!! Hope you can get fluids and rest.

Yeap, me too. Tested late (home test), so too late to take the Paxolovid. Crazy how expensive it is.

I am so sorry that Paxlovid is that expensive and that you have COVID.

I hope you feel better soon!

It’s always out there. While Maryland and DC infection rates are low, chances are 70% that in a room with 100 people at least one person is sick: https://www.pmc19.com/data/index.php. If you have school-age children, ride transit, attend a house of worship, or travel, there’s a good chance chance of exposure. Also, if you were vaccinated in the fall your vaccine likely no longer protects against infection even though it is still effective in preventing severe illness and hospitalization.

If you are prescribed Paxlovid, the Paxcess program to offset high out-of-pocket costs appears to be available still: https://www.cdc.gov/covid/media/pdfs/2024/07/Treatment-PDF_PAXCESS-Brochure.pdf.

As for testing, you can order a Binax (flu and Covid) two-test kit from Amazon for $22 for overnight delivery. You can also order tests in advance to have them on-hand. It may even be free through your insurer. Walgreens has some more info.: https://www.walgreens.com/findcare/covid19/otc-test.

I just got home from a grocery run to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. I was truly surprised at the number of people -- both employees and shoppers -- wearing masks. So I am not surprised to hear Covid is going around right now! Though maybe the flu and plain old colds, too, I guess.

I think more people have had it and not realized. Most probably think they have a bad flu and have not tested.

Yes, I have covid as well. It didnt hit me too badly at first, but I'm a week in and suddenly feeling worse again. Its gone from throat to stomach to generalized flu like symptoms back to throat and now I'm getting pink eye/eye inflammation.

What is everyone doing that they keep getting Covid? Are you immunocompromised? Worn down?

This isn't a weird flex, I just don't understand the extreme variability and incidence in severity among different people.

I haven't been able to get a Covid positive even when I desperately wanted the Golden Ticket to stay home from work

I made it through the rough years without getting it, despite people around me getting it. Then about 6 months ago I got it for the first time, while masked at an eye doctor appointment.

Yes, I noticed this in Anne Arundel county the other day— multiple people wearing masks in stores and offices, even out on a hiking trail.

I’m still living with altered taste (though greatly improved) after Covid one year ago.
I’m sorry to hear the current symptoms are just as bad as they were a year ago. Feel better soon everyone.

I wear a mask in certain places, doctor's waiting rooms - it's not because of covid. I mean I could get covid but I could also get the flu, a cold, something going around. If I can anticipate that I'm going to be in a crowded space, especially on a plane, I'm wearing a mask. Not having it wreak my vacation if it can be helped.

This is OP. No, I'm not immunocompromised. I am a teacher, in my fifties, had a flu shot in November, and haven't had been sick all winter... until this. And this is not a "Golden Ticket." I've been miserable. Count your blessings.
