Wedding attire for bride and groom

For a medium size wedding, formal attire, what is the thing for the groom to wear? A tux is what I think is the norm, not a suit? What is done nowadays, at weddings you've been to?

I haven't been to wedding with a groom in a tux in 10 years. Most of the time the groom is in a blue suit. For beach weddings the groom is a light blue linen suit, and for non beach weddings it's been a navy or medium blue suit.

A suit. Anything less is disrespectful.
