Club density in the DMV

It seems to me that we have too many clubs in the DMV. Talent gets spread too thin for the area to be nationally competitive with other areas. Why do we have this density problem here?

Supply and demand.

I would run from any program and their parents who solely want to be competitive and win in the youth stages.

People want to be on an A team so they will go to whatever club has first team in order to satisfy their ego.

“ECNL” is an awkward acronym. Let’s start the Association of National Academies League.

The OP is not wrong. Look at the Futsal regional cup in Atlantic City this weekend. We have 6 teams from this area competing. Where other groups seem to only send about 1 team per state.

We have more "top tier" clubs per person than anywhere else in the country. It's parents with money who can't handle their kid being on the B team.

That’s a long name. What should we call it for short?

I think the answer lies in this response. The interest is so high that parents analyze the ratios of teams at tournaments from different areas. There could be a dissertation on why people in this area feel so validated by ECNL hats, SupaCopa shirts and MLS Next badges. Instead of enjoying your kid performing and assessing where they are in their development journey, people analyze and project whether their team should win via the rankings app and try to fire the coach if they lose to an unworthy team. A young Carol Dweck protege could have a field day and build a career studying parenting through soccer in this area.

Parents validate their self worth via soccer clubs in the DMV and the market is supplying the product to satisfy their desires.

There is an obvious answer but I’m not gonna say it because it’s gross!
