| Does anyone know what day next week they’ll notify? With school closed Monday and Tuesday, is Wednesday the earliest they would do it? |
|
Oh gosh school is closed on Tuesday too?! I hate that they’re so vague. I don’t know but in the same waiting boat. I don’t understand why the nursery decisions have to be the last one. The K admissions posts put had me getting all excited 😂😂.
Are legacy or sibling? |
We are not a legacy or sibling. Our preschool director thinks we have a good shot, whatever that means. I’m tired of trying to read tea leaves about it. |
You are transferring your child out for nursery/pre-K and your current preschool director is supporting the process? |
Why wouldn’t they? One less kid to place for kindergarten, looks great for the school exmissions. |
| Yes! Our director is wonderful and has been very supportive and helped talk us through the process and the pros and cons. I can’t imagine her not being supportive. |
Oh you have a pre school director?! Nice. We applied for 3s/3k. Kiddo is home with nanny so no one to give us feedback. We have one kid in the lower school but also FA so we’re 50/50 |
Interesting.. I had thought they wouldn’t support since that’s one less tuition.. but I guess if you’re at a sought after preschool they can fill your spot easily |
Don’t you get sibling priority? |
|
Yes, but it’s not guaranteed.
I’ve heard of people getting shut out at the K entry at some other schools, so it wouldn’t be unusual. It’s fit, space and aid is not typically readily available for lower grades. If we don’t get in, we will do DoE and then re apply for K. |
During the HM financial aid webinar they said aid was most available for families at entry point years, N, K, 6 and 9. They had said aid is rarely available for other entry points. And aren’t decisions made need blind? Ie child goes to the admissions committee a decision is made to admit and then it goes to the financial aid committee. The financial aid package might not be enough for a family to accept a spot but they wouldn’t deny a child you was admitted a spot because of a lack of available financial aid. It’s two separate processes. |
|
Of course it’s need blind, but it’s not that simple. Like other schools, the bulk of FA goes to entry points, but the bulk goes to 9th, 6th, K and nursery. In that order. Maybe one or none awards have they given at 3s or pre-K. I know this for a fact. I don’t know if it’s because they choose not to ( after all there’s free DOE programs) or because they don’t have a lot of FA applicants at nursery.

| I believe pre-school admits are usually connected families. Take for example Riverdale, their pre-k class is ALL connected kids. Anything before K at these schools is just a money making scheme. They should be up front about it but instead they aren’t. |
Mostly agree with you, but I know an unconnected kid who got into Riverdale pre-k off the waitlist (gasp!). Not diversity, not billionaire. |
| In my world I’ve noticed all the HM Pre-K admits are siblings. The HM 3s I have seen plenty of unconnected and nice kids get admitted. |
