How to be attractive in the Dating Market

I am newly single and on the dating market. Given the other thread regarding attractiveness of each gender, I have some comments to make. Based on my observations there are different criteria for what makes a man or a woman attractive on the dating market in the DC area:

Women:

- be athletic and thin. You don’t need to be a size 00 but should be lean and not look obviously unhealthy. Men have commented that they don’t find size 00 attractive as they want someone with some meat on them but they are also bot attracted to out of shape and fat women. I’m thin but curvy and I appear to be in the sweet spot!

- have substance. The men I’ve met are looking for women with substance. Character, decency and intelligence. They want someone they can take to a cocktail party that can hold her own and not embarrass them.

- take care of yourself. Indulge in your beauty and your mental health. Men want to be with a happy well adjusted woman who has her life and health in order. No chaos and bad decisions.

- femininity. The all elusive requirement of femininity. Be soft and girls wear pretty colors, dresses and skirts and soft fabrics. Relax, let him court you and receive his attentions with grace.

Men:
- have a steady job and good income. 200k+. This is an expensive area and women want husbands that can contribute financially.
- Fitness. Especially for the over 40 crowd, so many out of shape men with beer bellies. Please go to the gym! A fit 45 year old is much more attractive than a fat 45 year old!
- grooming and presentation. Something happens to men the are 40+, their grooming and dressing goes downhill. Wear nice clothes that fit. No ugly T shirts and cargo pants. Time to be a grown up! Get a haircut, maintain nice teeth, use a moisturizer.
- be a good person. Be an upstanding guy she can take home to her family. Be considerate and kind.
