Wootton - name some of the positives

Anonymous
Wootton has been in the news lately for lots of negative things:
*racist activity not handled correctly by admin causing principal to be removed
*AP testing mismanaged causing chaos for students and staff
*lots of staff leaving school before 2025-2026 school year including admin, counselors, resource teachers, teachers, etc.
*shooting at school this year

But there are also lots of great things that get missed. My DD had a wonderful, caring teacher in the classroom during the lockdown that really helped the class stay calm, my DD also had a wonderful counselor who wrote the college letter of recommendation even though she left over summer, my DS had a great math teacher who would work with him during lunch almost every day helping him to earn a C in the class...

I can go on and on. What great things have you noticed about Wootton. Helping staff to feel appreciated will go a long way to ending the craziness that has become Wootton.

There are examples of those types of humans at each school, not just at Wootton.

Wootton is a wonderful school. My 3 kids have had many dedicated teachers. I could share literally a dozen stories about teachers and a specific counselor who went far above and beyond but I don’t want to out my kids. I get teary just thinking of these amazing individuals. We’ve had our share of frustrations too, but just know there are some really amazing individuals in that building who have changed my kids lives for the better. I worry that they will leave after all the drama and that will be such a loss.

Wootton will always be Wootton, regardless of where it is located.

It's great for gingers. It's the only school where you can have the best tan in a class.

Actually, there's nothing wrong with Wootton itself. The academics class offerings are top notch, the kids are sociable and well adjusted. Honestly, there are good teachers that MCPS took from the school, but many parents shifted and just got study groups or tutors to make up for the difference.

IMHO, it's the new Principal and MCPS Central Office that's the issue. Not sure if everyone knows, but both this years shooting and last years 'racism' incident involved the same kid that MCPS didn't move when his mom requested it (according to her TV interview). They're the primary reason why Wootton is getting smeared and it's reputation tarnished.

And these incidents highlighted the many gaps in the system: transferring out of a school, and security and communication systems

How is this a "positive"?

It is demonstrates the problems so other schools can learn from them.

Right now our teachers and staff - at Wootton or any other school - need to know that their efforts are appreciated.

Please send an email to a teacher or staff member who have gone above and beyond for your child. It is even better to cc the principal or some other administrator / supervisor. It will go a long way to building back morale.

This thread is so odd to me. In the midst of a school shooting, this is what OP is prioritizing?
