| Did you / your kid pick up an accent of the area where you/they went to college? Southern accent? Brooklyn? Etc. |
| Interesting question. My dh lost his Jersey accent when he went to college. |
| My kid learned to speak jive. |
| Definitely not. The regional Maine accent is awful. |
And how did he speak without a Jersey accent? |
| Going to college in Boston took the edge off my Midwestern accent. |
Handy. Put it on the resume. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6TraLJf6iw |
It’s funny- I grew up in Philly and went to college in the Midwest. Four years of college calmed down my Phillyisms. |
| I started talking faster after I went to college in NYC. |
| I don’t know that it tamed my accent, but coming to college in DC (from Missouri) definitely made me more conscious of a few words that I pronounced differently than my classmates from the East Coast. I no longer say “roof” to rhyme with “hoof,” for instance. I also got out of saying “pop” or “coke” for soft drinks. I don’t think I’ll ever lose my “y’all” though, although we are close enough to the south that it’s not uncommon to hear around here. |
| I also lost my Jersey accent, but think that was more because of moving around in the military, then going to college (Philly) |
Than |
| Yes. Went to Auburn. Southern accent. Faded upon return to DC area but several words stuck |
I bet you started walking faster too. |
| I think this happened to Hilaria Baldwin. |
