Tutoring

How common is tutoring among mcps students? Especially high achieving students at high performing schools..It appears every other kid is going to RSM, Kumon, mathnasium or have private tutors. Noted this pattern at our high performing middle school, a W feeder.

My kid is at a W school. He has 1 tutor for APES—it’s not the material that he has trouble with, it’s learning how to respond to the FRQs in the college board manner. He also has a tutor for AP Seminar. He has an IEP and both classes are not supported in school so he needs help.

My personal observation for kids admitted to CES at my kid's ES was that they were all going to academic enrichment. (They were also on the older side for their grade.)

Not particularly fair, no.

OP here- I just noticed this increasing trend in tutoring among current 5th/6th graders. Very very different from when my older kids went through the same middle school.. something has definitely changed.

OP here- should have mentioned that this is to get ahead and enrichment. Not for help or catching up.

Not a w school but we use online tutors.

Very common, especially those who are bright but don’t get into the magnets.
