Can I send my child with brand new pants that have holes in the knee from one wear?

Anonymous
DS wore a brand new pair of pants to school today. Brand new, took the tag off this morning new. But by the time he exited the bus, they have four holes in one of the knees.

Seeking outside opinions - will other people look at my kid as dirty or unkempt if he wears them again another day (after they’ve been washed of course)?

I’d like to get more wears out of this pair of pants. But is that killed if there’s holes?

I don't think holes are a big deal, but if they bother you there are cute and easy ways to mend jeans with patches and other techniques.

Jeans and other pants/clothes, I should say. I've used this technique to patch holes in hoodies, sweaters, athletic pants, etc.

If my kids didn't wear pants with holes in the knees, they'd never wear pants

I think patched pants are OK. Iron-on patches are fine.
Pants with holes look a little messy.

1. Depending on where they are from, you could take them back to the store and ask for a refund (Target and Old Navy will both take them back, for example).

2. I patch my kids' pants. You can buy some really cute patches that match any of your kids' interests. I have two daughters, the youngest wears a lot of hand me downs and some of her leggings have cute little heart patches on the knees. She's 10 and she doesn't care.

Yep! I'm pretty well off and don't care. They are clean. Some of DS's jeans come with holes in them. Last year, not one single pair of pants that DS owned made it through the winter without a hole, not one! Luckily he had a growth spurt, so all his new pants this year don't have holes. You should see his pajama pants since those are a much softer material that shreds even easier.

I'm not sure what little boys do to their pants, but my girls never have this issue. DS loves to wear long underwear under his pants too (they're like black bamboo fabric).

I did send my kids with minor holes in school pants during that phase of their childhood.

Ripped jeans are fashionable and sold at extortionate prices.

Nobody cares anymore.

I’m a teacher and don’t care or judge but know that your child will sit in the carpet a tear at the holes mindlessly. I will say not to do that but the hole will be widened anyway.

I recommend the patch idea

+1

There were a couple years when one of mine regularly wore holes in knees. Otherwise I would have been buying new weekly, and that wasn't happening.
