Hi everyone!
I’m looking for some insight from families who have experience switching private schools around 3rd grade. How difficult was the transition academically and socially for your child? Was the admissions process more competitive for 3rd grade compared to earlier entry years? I’m especially curious about availability of spots, how schools assess applicants at that age, and how kids adjust once they start. Any advice, lessons learned, or things you wish you knew beforehand would be really appreciated! |
| Did it. Both parochial coed schools but went from ADW (preK 3 to 2nd grade) to AOB (3d-5th). Was not an issue for child at all. Switch made as the old ADW school was understaffed, not well managed, lots of parent hours required and limited specials - and excessive COVID restrictions. Moved to a much better run school (extra 30min drive) for same price which offered so much more but did not stay past 5th. Found the perfect 6-12th school with great fit and easier admissions at 6th than at 9th - so moved child at 6th to provide plenty of time to bond with classmates. Good luck |
| I think this is very school specific. The lower schools all have different levels of rigor. Your kid may be ahead or behind - sometimes by a significant amount - even an entire grade. This is not necessarily a reflection of upper school rigor but a reflection of school philosophy. |
