Semaglutides: do you still enjoy food/wine?

Anonymous
For those of you on semaglutides who were into eating out at nice restaurants, good wine, cooking, etc. Do you still get enjoyment from food and/or alcohol? And if not, how do you feel about losing that part of your life? I am afraid to take a semaglutide because I'm afraid I will lose this part of my life that I enjoy (and that I enjoy with my husband).

Yes, of course! Just consume less.

Yes, I still enjoy it, but portions have changed dramatically. My husband and I are both on GLP-1s, and we still go out to eat like we did before, but a restaurant portion meal is just too much food for me (and to a lesser extent him) now.

Before we would share an appetizer and then each get an entree.
Now we either a) get two appetizers to share and not order any entree, or b) get one entree to share, or c) get an appetizer and one entree to share and often still have doggy bag to bring home from that.

No, I really don't get much enjoyment out of food anymore. And eating out is a guaranteed doggy bag home. Sometimes with enough food for another two meals.

We just don't eat out anymore unless it can't be avoided. We prepare our own foods, eat maybe three or four bites and store the rest as leftovers.

I do still drink bourbon.

You shouldn’t be taking up a table! Sit at the bar!

Yes.

I will say that I often find myself wanting *something* but I can't put my finger on it. Most food doesn't sound appetizing to me and I don't want it. I'll try want ice cream or chips and it's just not appealing. But I easily sit down in front of dinner and still enjoy it.

I like one cocktail and I like the way it tastes/the buzz, but I don't want a second one.

This explains several of my recent meals with girlfriends, where they all ordered just an appetizer each and only ate about 4 bites of food.

Honestly no. I have no desire to drink. Like at all. Which is fine most of the time, but it's a bummer if I want to have a few glasses with friends once in a blue moon.

Food is kind of the same way. Going out is pointless because I eat two bites and can't force myself to eat any more.

It's still better than being obese like I was so I'll take it.

I went out to dinner and sat next to someone who probably is on one. I noticed at dinner she only ate half her food. But during the day she would eat candy that was in a jar. That was noticeable to me because it was maybe 3-4 pieces of candy.

Do you say unfortunately because you think it's not working for you?

Yes, but I order/eat less and often bring home my unfinished portion. Wine--a glass and that's it. We eat out quite a bit less now, and honestly, that's fine from a budget and overall relationship with food standpoint.

It seems to be working from a physical perspective. But I still want to enjoy good food and wine if that makes sense.

For the first month or so, no, I did not "enjoy" food and wine in that sense. I did not think about what meals I wanted to eat that day, I did not get excited about checking out new menus. It actually was super helpful because I would eat solely for fuel and I'd choose much healthier, nutrient packed meals because it was difficult to eat sufficient calories (I struggled to get to 1000 calories a day and would end up drinking a glass of milk at bedtime to get myself there).

As my body got used to the medication I absolutely started enjoying food again (wine less so, but I enjoy having a few sips and then just no desire to drink any more), I just eat way less. I think my lack of desire for alcohol is a huge bonus. But again- I enjoy tasting it and feeling a mild fuzzy feeling, but I just don't want any more. I don't miss it at all.

weird take. only people who overeat are allowed the privilege of a chair with a back, at a low top table?
