Recent experiences with Holy Redeemer in College Park?

Considering making a move there for middle if lottery to College Park Academy doesn't work out. Would be interested to hear about middle school academics and general atmosphere in the middle school years.

Not so interested in Catholic high school destinations as we're hopeful we'd make it back into public for HS but that's good to know. I guess this means the academics are strong ? I don't know much about how competitive these Catholic high schools are . Are kids generally able to get into the specialty programs in PGCPS?

I strongly doubt anyone has ever applied to a PGCPS program or even went to PGCPS public school after graduating from Holy Redeemer. Almost 100% of the students go on to Catholic High Schools.

This is a small Catholic school. The students are Catholic and the families are almost always members of the Holy Redeemer Parish and lots of them are longtime residents of the town of Kensington.

We are not at Holy Redeemer but another Catholic K-8 and my kid applied for the STEM magnet at Wheaton. They were not accepted, not even waitlisted with good grades and test scores. I suspect it was because they were already a year behind in math (they were taking Algebra I in 8th) compared to the kids coming from the public middle school in accelerated math and science programs.

I'd find out what the expectations are for any public schools/programs you're interested in and then ask about Holy Redeemer's curriulum which would give you your answer.

This isn’t true. If you go to their social media you will clearly see some students went to PGCPS public after graduating.

I looked in the Parish Times Archives on the net in which they publish the schools their graduates attend each year. I checked for 2025, 2024, 2023 and 2022. Every year they have one or two go to public schools, but these are always in Montgomery County. You can check at Parishtimes.com/archives and look at the May issues for each year.

I think PPs are confusing Holy Redeemer in College Park (which is what OP was asking about) and in Kensington – two different places!

Not the one in Kensington ( also called Holy Redeemer) . This is the school in College Park . I believe some go on to Roosevelt .

Did you not read before responding? This has been pointed out several times already starting hours ago.

My kids are college age now but I have 3 that graduated from Holy Redeemer and a good number in each of their classes got into the science and tech program at Roosevelt, including mine. I have only good things to say about the school, but our experience is not as recent as you may want.
