They do! Grammar too, and spelling, and also math fluency drills!

DCPS elementary schools (except maybe those who asked for and got an approved waiver) use "Fundations" and "Heggerty" as their phonics programs.

JOW is fantastic at teaching literacy. The first grade team is particularly good across the board, but K is especially strong in reading and really lays the groundwork on phonics well.

Plus you'll get the new building, which is going to be gorgeous. Could not be a better time to start at JOW.

Can you please say more about this situation? I met another parent who implied some issues but didn't give details. I don' t know if it's the school or more family-specific needs. They are hoping to pull their 1st grader but apparently still lottery-ing their PK3 so I'm intrigued.

Also curious about what you are running from at Two Rivers - and if it’s an issue that affects both campuses or just 4th street. Please share.
