| Has anyone ever just up and quit a job? Just get so fed up that you just quit on the spot |
| Not on the spot, but with nothing lined up, yes, a few times in 20 year career. (Side comment: I always live a bit below means so splurge is that.) |
| Not on the spot, but I’ve handed in my notice with nothing else lined up, just because I suddenly was fed up. |
| OP: If you can afford to, do it but with two-weeks notice. What do you do? If it's min. wage labor, fine, quit. But if your network matters, you'll need to give notice for your network to remain strong. |
| Yes but not on the spot and I gave a lot of notice. |
DP -me also. I got fed up with being asked to do tasks that are high above my pay grade but being paid pennies |
| I'm close to doing this. But the job market is awful (I work in tech, remote job). |
| I've never been in a financial position to actually do it. There have been two occasions when I had a specific moment when I knew/decided to quit but both times it took a while to line up my next job. |
|
So do you all have hobby jobs and trust funds? Who does that? Even without the financial hit, it’s unprofessional and a reputational risk.
Sure illegal or similar, walk away. But I doubt that is most of these stories… |
| My mom did- I remember! She had just paid off the house and her boss proposed a pay cut and fewer vacations and she told him to F off (politely) and walked out. He ended up losing the contract and she got a much better job but it took a year. |
No, that’s stupid and immature. |
|
Yes.
I worked for a personality disordered person who screamed a lot and forced us all to use purple felt tip pens. I routinely threw up from the stress of working for them. One day, they were screaming and I said I was done and left. They threatened me with legal action regarding an office key. But I had left the key on the HR woman’s desk. The HR woman rolled her eyes at the threats and said not to worry about it. The crazy lady also collected guns. Never regretted leaving. But I live below my means and always have FU money saved up. Too many psychologically ill people are put into power. |
| I’m on the verge of this now. Seriously thought about quitting several days in a row. I don’t enjoy my job and my boss is emotionally unstable. |
| Did it less than two weeks ago. Zero regrets. That said, had been financially preparing to quit for 6+ months and have a lot of runway. First time quitting without another job to go to in my 25 years working. |
| Someone did this at my previous job. Frankly, it came off as a tantrum and the person basically made a fool of themselves. |
