Why is there another early release day?

Anonymous
FCPS has a lot of nerve keeping the early‑release day next week. It’s honestly exhausting how little regard there seems to be for families or for the kids who keep losing instructional time.

I think it's a great idea. Every Friday should be an early release.

Better yet, school should start 2 hours later and end when it normally does and only be Mon. - Thurs. and then run all year round.

When is there an ER? Friday?

Yes, the children's lives are going to be ruined!

There would probably be less objection if they held 3 hour early releases on Fridays because working parents are more likely able to flex their schedules on Friday to accommodate it. But then absences would be high on these dates from families taking 3 day weekends. Which begs the question, if they want to increase teacher planning time while reducing student absences, why not just combine the early releases into 3 or 4 full days off? They can drop them in months where teachers don’t already get a TW.

Teachers will also take off if the early releases are scheduled on Fridays or they actually have 3-4 days off instead. Speaking as a former FCPS teacher, I was done by Friday. I would not want planning time on a Friday afternoon. I loved the early release on Mondays when I taught.

I'll take the bait...

Please explain how student's are losing instructional time with a previously planned early dismissal.

This should be good...

The inconsistent, roller‑coaster schedule is more exhausting than anything. Every time the kids finally get some momentum and routine, here comes another day off - or two. Would be nice for kids to actually stay in school for several weeks in a row, right? But somehow we’re still expected to keep perfect attendance.

It's going to blow your mind to realize that fcps has off days on Monday and Tuesday, for the oh so important American holiday of lunar new year.

Amother 2.5 day week to recover from this week, one of the very few 5 day weeks on the calendar.
