Hi everyone,
Any parents signing up their dd to the prep showcase? This would be our first year going and would like to know if this program would be worth the $150 price tag... I do want my dd to get some experience with college coaches as I aspire her to have the opportunity to play volleyball in college... Overall, is it really worth doing this showcase for my dd to be put on some of the coaches radar or are the chances too slim ? |
| If this is your first year participating, it's likely not worth it. Most volleyball families waste most of the money they spend on volleyball. Some people will tell you that it was all worth it because they likely don't want to admit that they wasted their money. |
My DD now plays in college and we went to a few showcases at 15s and 16s and I don't think they were worth it. I think she probably went to 5 or 6 showcases and only had one meaningful contact from a college coach who was at a particular showcase in person. At most showcases that are affiliated with a tournament, there are few (if any) college coaches at the showcase in person - if you read the marketing carefully about the college coaches "registered" for a given showcase, it usually means they have signed up to have access to the video, but I doubt many coaches sit and watch hours of players on showcase courts looking for a needle in a haystack. I do think there is more value in the kinds of showcase camps that Paramount, Metro, and VA Elite have been having for the last few years. In those camps, the college coaches are actually working and interacting with players over a longer period of time so those could result in catching a coach's eye. While most recruiting energy will be at Triple Crown on President's Day weekend, there will likely be a decent number of college coaches at Capitol Hill. Some programs will have staff at both. You can see which college coaches are registered to attend on University Athlete. If your DD doesn't have an University Athlete account already, at least have her sign up for the free account. University Athlete is a platform that a lot of colleges actually use in managing their recruiting and is not a portal into pushy calls with sales reps like NCSA or SportsRecruits. If she wants to play in college she should reach out to coaches from programs she might be interested in who will be at the tournament, introducing herself, providing a link to video of her playing, and letting them know her schedule for day 1. There have been several threads about college recruiting for volleyball on DCUM already that you can search for, but just know that most players need to be proactive in reaching out to college coaches ahead of tournaments to be seen (unless your DD is 6'2" and touches 10'6", then coaches will find her). College coaches aren't just wandering around tournaments (or going to showcases) hoping to find a player that matches what they need. They have a plan ahead of time based on players on their radar, which usually happens from the player reaching out to the coach, most often via email. Keep in mind that depending on your DD's age, the type of contact permitted will result in different responses from coaches, even when there is interest. Prior to June 15 following their sophomore year of HS, contact is very limited. https://usavolleyball.org/resource/college-recruitment-timeline/ If your DD is in 10th grade or lower, it's possible you could see a coach from a program they reached out to on the sideline watching her play but then you don't hear anything or maybe you'll get an invitation to camp at that college. Once the player is of recruiting age, if a coach is interested after watching them play the coach will likely reach out to set up additional communications, like a call. The NCAA recruiting calendar dictates the types of contact allowed by date. https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/compliance/recruiting/calendar/2025-26/2025-26D1Rec_WVBRecruitingCalendar.pdf |

^^^^ very good advice.
Save your $$ from the showcases. |
List of colleges currently registered to attend CHC https://universityathlete.com/p/attending/26147 |
| Thank you so much for the information, I will use this advice moving forward. Once again, thank you |
Careful - this isn't the same as "coaches attending the showcase." |
100% - this is programs with coaches attending the tournament. Not a bad list though considering Triple Crown is where most of the top teams are. Also, many coaches wait to register for tournaments until a few days prior so it's likely to grow. |
And also the list your player would want to start with if looking to invite coaches to watch them play at Cap Hill. |

I am hoping Capitol Hill puts out their schedule today instead of tomorrow.
Triple Crown NIT has released their schedules out today. https://results.advancedeventsystems.com/event/PTAwMDAwNDI3Nzk90/home |
