"Special" closed board meeting on short notice 4-6:30 today. Clearly something is happening. The only agenda item is to deliberate on reviews and renewals.

Well, any idea what it was about?

No idea but there's another special board meeting scheduled for 2/13. The only item is to deliberate on reviews and renewals. The upcoming reviews for February are Learn, Rocketship and Thurgood HS.

Ooh. Well, clearly something is being dealt with. I bet they're negotiating with Rocketship on conditions. Sigh, again with the conditions for the terrible performers.

During the government shutdown, I subbed at Rocketship. There were 5th graders who couldn’t read basic words and those who couldn’t properly write a sentence. It’s more of a behavioral institution imo. It was really sad and not sure why parents praise Charter schools. But as I sat there for that week, I wondered what could DCPS do with this population.

Subbing at one charter school informs your assessment for all of them? I'm not defending Rocketship, you can look up their performance easily online and see that they are struggling. What you can also find online is that in the Wards where Rocketship operates -- Wards 5, 7 and 8 -- the top performing schools are charter schools. There are excellent DCPS schools and there are excellent charter schools. It's sad that your experience at one struggling charter has become your measure of all.

I chimed in due to Rocketship being mentioned as being on the agenda. Hope you don’t rant your life away. Have a good day.
