Nice, plus sized, business casual blouse or top for work

Anonymous
I need something to wear to an presentation in a week, where I'm hoping to impress someone who has the ability to offer me a job. I work in a field where a suit does not make sense, I plan to wear black pants and shoes, and a shirt or blouse of some kind, but I need a new one!

Where can I look, either on line or in person, where I can find something that will work?

Nordstrom’s, Quince, Talbots, Universal Standard, Eileen Fisher … would all have nice sweaters and blouses that could work for what you described.

All of the above, plus look at the Torrid Harper blouse. It's my go to for stuff like this. I have about 20 of them and wear one everday.

Believe it or not I had a lot of luck with Amazon. In'voland tops have really nice material. Browsing their page, some of the patterns are a bit loud for my taste, but if you find a style you like, it's usually also available in solid colors that would be more appropriate for a work thing.

I suggest a crisp, button down shirt, perhaps a blue with white stripes. You could wear a tasteful necklace and belt. I think this will look more updated than a blouse. I say this as a 55 year old lawyer who has been trying to keep updated in a conservative but more casual office environment. Silky blouses with patterns on them just seem dated on me now.

Here is an example of what I am describing:

I posted the Macy’s link. Look at the blue/white stripe version.

I don’t think these PP’s are plus sized, tbh. A button down is really hard to style and have it not look sloppy if you’re fat and/or large chested.

OP you need two layers. That doesn’t mean a suit. It can be a soft blazer. Somewhere between a sweater and a jacket. Try Nic and Zoe or Ming Wang.

This is very casual, but it will still give you a little polish. You could wear the light colored one with black pants and whatever shell/blouse is good color for you.

Actually, it just needs to be cut properly — which often means choosing plus sizes constructed using plus size fit models — rather than larger versions of Misses sizes based on fit models with non-plus proportions. Extra (not visible) buttons are nice too, if gaps are a concern.
